I’ve gotten some requests via twitter and Instagram that our puppy, Harley, make a blog appearance. But first, a little background on Harley… He was born in Hungary on October 30, 2010 and made his way to Dubai in February of 2011. We planned to get a puppy from a local shelter, but since dogs are not very common here, there are not many shelters in the country. Therefore we picked up our little friend at a local petshop in Dubai.
We thought a lot about what type of pup to get. First, I wanted a dog that would be small enough to leave in the airplane cabin with us whenever we leave Dubai. The UAE does not allow dogs to enter the country in the cabin and only dogs under 15 lbs. can leave the country in the airplane cabin. The idea of getting a dog and then placing him under the plane for upwards of 17 hours of travel time broke my heart. Thus we knew we wanted a small dog. Also, LJF has horrible allergies and I knew I wanted a dog that was hypo allergic not only for LJF but I am guessing our future kids might also have some sort of allergy (since it runs the family) and I wanted our dog to not cause issues for them.
While Harley’s passport says he’s a toy poodle (yes he actually has a passport for leaving and entering countries) both LJF and I strongly believe he’s a cockapoo. Either way, it doesn’t matter to us, as we love him the same. He has been the perfect addition to our family.
As a quick aside, Harley actually wears a plaid bowtie collar. I about died when I found it on pinterest; we purchased it from the Etsy shop Pecan Pie Puppies. Ryan was so easy to work with and even created a custom bowtie for Harley, as LJF was adamant he should wear red.

Does he just sit there quietly on flights? I have a Pomeranian..he’s never flown on a plane yet but I want to bring him travelling with me sometime. I just hope he won’t be terrified or make a lot of noise
